Accrington Stanley Poem Competition

Accrington Stanley Community Trust (ASCT) sent all local schools a Poetry Competition to write a poem about Accrington Stanley. Jenson from Huncoat was our school winner and he will now go into the overall winners final.  ASCT came into school yesterday to present Jenson with a medal. He read his poem out to them and if he is the overall winner he will read it out before the next football match! He is already a star on Accrington Stanley’s Instagram and Facebook page! We are really proud of Jenson.

Huncoat Primary Marks STEM Week

During National STEM Week (8th March 2024), Huncoat Primary School’s Year 5 & 6 students delved into engineering with a special visitor, exploring gliders. They learned about careers in engineering and tackled challenging vocabulary related to flight. Applying their knowledge, they designed and launched gliders, measuring their flight distances for success.

Meanwhile, classes across all levels embraced STEM challenges tied to literature for World Book Day.

Reception mixed colours, Year 1 built pig houses, Year 2 explored habitats, Year 3 crafted Roman baskets, Year 4 focused on recycling, Year 5 explored Amazon lifecycles, and Year 6 dissected lamb’s hearts. It’s been a week of discovery and creativity, inspiring the next generation of innovators!

West End Primary Celebrates Birthday Ahead Of Easter

It’s been another busy term at West End Primary, especially as the school marked it’s 110th birthday on March 16th. To celebrate,  the children were treated to a surprise birthday party for the school in an assembly and then each class played party games for part of the day. They rounded off the day with some party cupcakes. So, let’s take a look at what else the pupils and staff got up to in the run up to the Easter break…

Back in January the school was visited by Adrian Bowden’s Travelling Science Show. The Infants and the Juniors had separate shows covering a vast array of different scientific concepts. It was a proper WOW assembly with fantastic experiments to show science in action.

On the 7th March the whole school came dressed as their favourite book character, completing a range of activities throughout the day based around their favourite books. They also enjoyed a special World Book Day themed lunch provided by our fantastic catering team.

West End Primary School marked Children’s Mental Health Week with an “Express Yourself” day. The children were able to wear clothes of their choice. We had lots of Disney Princesses, Superheroes, footballers and even a T-Rex! The children brought in a donation to Place to Be mental health charity. One child in Year 2 even raided his own piggy bank to add to his donation.

Finishing the term on a high – they held an  Easter Egg Competition where each class had to complete an Easter themed activity  judged blind by the teachers. The winners all received an Easter Egg in the end of term assembly.

LET Education Trust To Lead Secondary School Teacher Training From September 2024

We are very proud to play our part in training new teachers through our Pennine Lancashire SCITT. From September we have gone into partnership with a number of other SCITT providers across Lancashire to form a larger SCITT called Embrace.

LET Education Trust will be leading on secondary teacher training in this new venture and I would be grateful if you would share the information on the attached poster with anyone who may be interested in applying to become either a secondary or primary teacher from September 2024.

Lancashire Education Trust: School Building Updates

The Lancashire Education Trust is committed to providing the best possible learning environments for all our students whilst considering the impact on the planet, in our bid to be NET zero by 2030.
Over the last few months, we’ve carried out building works across our schools with a view to honouring these commitments. Here is just some of the work being carried out:

  • The Hollins School has refurnished classrooms and are in the midst of installing an energy efficient heating system, which includes air conditioning systems in appropriate classrooms.
  • A new boiler, sports hall flooring and 4G astroturf have been added to the Rhyddings school.
  • Huncoat Primary has a brand new boiler and fencing.
  • West End Primary school has benefitted from a new roof, new internal doors and facia boards.
